Oberlin College (new.oberlin.edu) has an opening for LGBTQ Community Coordinator.

The Division of Student Life and Services seeks applications for the position of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning (LGBTQ) Community Coordinator in the Multicultural Resource Center (MRC). This is a 1.0 FTE, full-time, twelve-month Administrative and Professional Staff position, reporting to the Associate Dean of Academic Diversity/Director of the Multicultural Resource Center.

Responsibilities:

This position requires a specialist who possess the knowledge and experience to help support the cultural, social, and academic needs and concerns of LGBTQ students specifically and other historically underrepresented students generally. As a member of the MRC staff, this Coordinator acts as a link between the Associate Dean/Director and students as well as between the MRC and other campus and local communities. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Job Functions:

  • Identify and help to address the academic, social, cultural, and political needs of LGBTQ students, as well as those of other student communities;
  • Assist LGBTQ students in fostering a strong sense of self and community, and to build coalitions between communities;
  • Work as part of a collaborative team that includes the Associate Dean/Director, Africana Community Coordinator, Asian/Pacific American Community Coordinator, and Latino/a Community Coordinator;
  • Be highly accessible to individual students, groups of students, and student organizations as an advisor and mentor on academic and personal concerns that impact academic performance;
  • Collaborate on the construction, execution, and support of academic, cultural, and social programming on diversity and inclusion for all students, faculty, staff, alumni, community members, and other constituencies;
  • Collaborate on the construction and facilitation of social justice education and trainings for all students, faculty, staff, alumni, community members, and other constituencies;
  • Work on the construction, design, and distribution of MRC publications and resources;
  • Maintain records and provide narrative and/or written progress reports as directed, including program assessments/evaluations, budget reports, program reports;
  • Collaborate with individual and groups of faculty and academic departments and programs to support student academic success as well as to further intellectual discourses on diversity and inclusion for the entire campus;
  • Collaborate with Alumni Affairs to support the building of community between students and alumni;
  • Make appropriate referrals of students to other administrative offices;
  • Help to create connections between the LGBTQ community at Oberlin College and the LGBTQ community in Lorain County and Cleveland area;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean/Director;
  • Working evenings and weekends is often required.

Required Qualifications:

B.A. degree; preference will be given to candidates with degrees in academic fields and programs of study that examine the experiences of historically underrepresented communities; experience demonstrating strong interpersonal and organizational skills; knowledge of and track record working on LGBTQ issues and concerns specifically and historically underrepresented communities generally; experience working on educational programs and trainings; experience working with students in a higher education context, preferably a liberal arts setting; possess excellent oral and written communication skills; and be collaborative and team oriented.

Desired Qualifications:

Experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, and website management.

Compensation:

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and skills for an entry level administrative position. Benefits include: medical, dental, and vision plans, 22 days paid vacation per year, 5 meals/ week at select residence halls, support for relocation, free parking permit, use of recreational facilities, and tuition remission for up to 5 credit hours in one course per semester.
