Job Description

This ten-month position coordinates programmatic initiatives related to LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer) issues.

Essential Functions

This position coordinates programmatic initiatives related to LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer) issues. The Assistant Director will coordinate outreach, training, and educational programs for the campus community on LGBTQ issues; advise students and student organizations; plan and develop programs; build community on and off campus; network with alumni including attending reunion events; and serve on the advisory committee for LGBTQ Studies. This position will be responsible for managing the LGBTQ budget; supervising student interns; developing an alumni newsletter and writing an End of the Year Report. Knowledge of Safe Zone training is essential.

As a member of the CLSI (Center for Leadership and Student Involvement) staff, the Assistant Director is responsible for administering a variety of operational and educational functions which are all designed to foster personal growth and development within the CLSI program. Specific duties include but are not limited to: the formation and execution of innovative leadership programming that links students' academic work with co-curricular experiences, as well as program assessment. Overall responsibility for budget matters, including budget reports, maintenance of budget records for program for auditing purposes; ensure that Colgate policies, regulations and guidelines of the Center for Leadership and Student Involvement are followed. The Assistant Director will also serve as the contact person with outside agencies and vendors and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required, master's degree preferred. One to three years experience in Student Activities and Leadership or a combination of education and experience from which comparable skills are acquired. The candidate must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of LGBTQ issues, preferably at the intersection of race, class, gender, and sexual orientation, especially in the context of a college community. Candidates must be able to communicate and establish effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members, and must be flexible with their time, especially during evenings and weekends. The ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, develop new initiatives, and interact effectively in an advisory capacity with diverse students is required.
