Job Description
The Coordinator for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, and Ally (LGBTQIA) Programs will work as part of the Student Life Office team to design, plan, implement, and evaluate campus-based programming for LGBTQIA students and campus constituents that help further the UMKC strategic plan, promote individual student and constituent personal development, and advance the creation of successful college experiences.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Experience with LGBTQIA issues, policies, and theoretical frameworks
- Leadership experience in program and event planning
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills as well as analytic and organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks
- Experience working with a varied community and volunteer base
- Technological knowledge and website experience considered an asset
Responsibilities of the Coordinator Include
- Furthering the University of Missouri-Kansas City Strategic Plan, particularly the goals of "placing student success at the center" and "embracing diversity."
- Plan, implement, coordinate, market, and evaluate relevant programming and services for LGBTQIA students such as conferences, workshops and collaborative programs with other departments or community organizations, recognition ceremonies (such as Lavender Graduation), and student development mechanisms (such as mentoring and leadership programs)
- Oversee the UMKC Safe Space training program, expand the program on campus and in the community, explore options for developing a peer educator model
- Hire, train, schedule supervise and evaluate LGBTQIA graduate assistant and student staff in programming efforts, service delivery, office staffing and other areas as services and programs demand
- Design and/or supervise the design of promotional materials, press releases, and other publications
- Oversee and maintain LGBTQIA Office website. Develop and expand web resources when possible (www.umkc.edu/lgbt)
- Perform outreach duties as requested by campus and community organizations
- Secure additional funding through sponsorships, donations, grants, or revenue generating opportunities
